EDB: Kazakhstan joins top three recipients of Chinese investments

Kazakhstan has joined the top three leaders in the Eurasian region in terms of Chinese investment volume, alongside Russia and Turkmenistan, as reported by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). The financial institution studied the accumulated mutual direct investments between China and 12 Eurasian countries over the past seven years, which increased by a quarter, maintaining stable growth to this day. Thus, the figure neared $80 billion by the end of the first half of 2023, with about $1 billion accounting for regional states’ investments in the Chinese economy. Kazakhstan received most of Chinese funds, namely almost $42 billion, which represents more than half or 52 percent of the total investment volume. According to the EDB, Chinese investors directed nearly half as much to Russia during this period, and around $9.4 billion to Turkmenistan by the second half of 2023.
