Kassym-Jomart Tokayev holds bilateral meetings during working visit to U.S.

Tokayev met with Mastercard Executive Vice President Nicola Villa during his
working visit to the U.S. The meeting agenda included the issues related to the
prospects for cooperation in the development of the financial and IT sectors. President
Tokayev supported the decision of one of the world leaders in the field of
innovative payment technologies to choose Almaty as a regional hub in the CIS,
Central and Eastern Europe. The Mastercard company also intends to promote
domestic GovTech solutions abroad. According to Nicola Villa, numerous
countries are interested in Kazakhstan’s experience in that area. The Head of
State discussed the possibility of building data centers in the country with Susan
Pointer, Vice President of Amazon Corporation. During the meeting, the parties
also discussed opportunities for cooperation in the development of cloud
“President Tokayev and Vice President of Amazon Corporation Susan Pointer discussed the impact of national technologies on the development of the IT sector and digitalization. A corresponding agreement was signed between the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry and Amazon Web Services to acquire the Outpost cloud solution. This means that starting today, Amazon Web Services technologies will be integrated into our eGov platform,” said Bagdat Mussin, Kazakh Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
The Head of State also held a meeting with Jakob Stausholm, Rio Tinto’s Chief Executive Officer. President Tokayev was informed about the implementation of copper exploration projects in the Kostanai and Karagandy regions. In a meeting with Rob Walton, President of GE Healthcare for Europe, Middle East and Africa, the Head of State was informed about GE Healthcare’s plans to create a Centralized National Digital Archive of Clinical Images in Kazakhstan. Additionally, the American company intends to localize production of ultrasound machines in the country and upgrade the qualification of healthcare personnel by opening GE Healthcare Academy on the basis of the Astana Medical University.
