Kazakh residents prefer digital payments

Kazakh residents are using less cash and credit cards, and are increasingly giving preference to electronic payments. According to the analytical center of Kazakhstan’s Association of Financiers, 82 percent of transactions in the country are cashless, which accounts for four out of five of all purchases or payments. Experts analyzed the data for the first nine months of 2022 and compared them with the same period in 2021. They showed that the share of non-cash transactions in the country increased from 77 to 82 percent. The vast majority of citizens’ expenses fall on online payments and purchases. In total, during the period from January to September of the current year, they spent over 59 trillion tenge over the Internet, and this is over 80 percent of all non-cash payments.
