National headgear from various countries exhibited in Turkistan
National headgear from various countries such
as saukele encrusted with precious stones, ornamented borik, tubeteika and
kimeshek were presented at an exhibition in the city of Turkistan. Besides the accessories
from Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmen, Azerbaijani and Turkish cultures, visitors will
also be able to get acquainted with samples of foreign cultures, including a
traditional Korean Gat hat, a Chinese Douli hat and a Native American roach
headdress. Guests will be offered to take part in the
headdress making process as well. The exhibition will be open to the public
for two weeks.
“The museum fund includes about 50 models of headwear from 14 countries. Specialists restore the hats and other models that come to us, then send them for storage. We don’t have some headwear models, but fortunately, the museum collection is replenished every year,” said tour guide Akniet Zharylkasyn.
