Farmers of Turkistan region increase exports of melons and watermelons

Farmers of the Shardara district of the Turkistan region have exported almost 45,000 tonnes of melons and gourds. The figures are not yet final - the shipment of watermelons and melons continues.

“The volume of harvest is growing every year. We collect 260 centners from each hectare. All thanks to high-quality fertilizers. They are allocated as subsidies, which allows us to significantly cover the cost of maintaining the fields,” said Amanzhol Kalybayev, farm director.

Melons in the Shardara region were planted on 580 hectares of land. Most of the products grown here will be exported to Russian and European markets.

“Following the results of 9 months, 44,000 tonnes of melons were exported. Last year this figure was lower - we supplied only 39,000 tonnes of melons and watermelons,” said Abylai Makanov, Deputy Head of Agriculture Department, Shardara district, Turkistan region.

Meanwhile, the demand for watermelons and melons only encourages farmers to expand their sown area.
