ADB to invest US$100 billion in green projects in Central Asia

The Asian Development Bank intends to invest US$100 billion in the development of green projects in the Central Asian region. During the Regional Unity in Climate Conservation Conference, representatives of the financial institute stressed the importance of joint climate action of the Central Asian countries, and also particularly noted Kazakhstan's contribution to the development of green projects and joining efforts in combating the effects of climate change.

“Central Asia should play crucial role to solve this global issue, and ADB’s ambition is to provide climate financing with amount of US$100 billion between 2019-2030, which means around 8,8 billion per year. It’s a lot of money but should be really used to address these very global challenges. So I very much would like to cooperate with Central Asian countries, especially Kazakhstan, to achieve our target and achieve a great recovery from the pandemic. So out of the US$100 billion we are planning to invest US$66 billion in mitigation and US$34 billion in adaptation,” said ADB president Masatsugu Asakawa.
