Cargo transportation through Kazakhstan along Europe-China route grows

Over the past 10 years, container traffic from China to Europe through the EAEU has grown from 7,000 to 600,000 containers per year. According to the Eurasian Development Bank, one of the most promising areas is the International North-South Transport Corridor, the branches of which pass through Kazakhstan. Expert estimated that up to five million tonnes of bulk and 2,000 container cargoes go through it every year. It will be possible to transport up to 15-25 million tonnes of non-containerized shipments and 300-600,000 containers through this route in 10 years – the volumes will be comparable to the current transportation along the East-West corridor. The main advantage of the North-South Transport Corridor over other routes, including the sea route, is a significant reduction in transit time and the growth of the volume of rail container traffic in the Europe-China / China-Europe route.
