Kazakh businesswomen participate in UN Women’ Entrepreneurship Expo

Businesswomen from Kazakhstan are taking part in UN Women’s first regional ‘Women’s Entrepreneurship Expo’. It brought together hundreds of female entrepreneurs from 12 countries, as well as representatives of large international companies and investors from Europe and Central Asia. The event is being held virtually. Its main aim is to support and empower businesswomen both during the pandemic and in the post-COVID-19 era. It will also help them enter new markets, and thus increase profits. The event includes various sections where participants can demonstrate their products, learn to make efficient business plans and experiment with new ideas. They will also discuss topics ranging from branding and marketing to e-commerce, and, of course, they will share experiences. At the end, investors will choose businesses they want to provide financial support to.

“If we look at the global level, 82 percent of women-led companies have been negatively impacted by this pandemic. And global data shows that women-owned small and medium enterprises are about 6 percentage points more likely to close than businesses that are owned by men. UN Women has helped to improve work and career opportunities and has launched or expanded small enterprises,” said Alia El-Yassir, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia.
