The number of people infected with coronavirus has surged sharply in Kazakhstan. 820 new COVID-19 cases have been registered over the past 24 hours. The majority of the coronavirus patients were detected in three metropolitan areas. Thus, Almaty ranks first with 280 cases, the capital recorded 180 infections, followed by Shymkent with 87 positive cases. According to Kazakh Health Ministry, over 1,311,000 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been detected since the beginning of the spread of the pandemic. 3,700 Kazakh citizens continue to receive treatment for coronavirus, 433 of them are in hospitals. The country also continues the vaccination campaign. According to the latest data, over 9,316,000 people received both component of the vaccine. Over 4,875,000 citizens received a booster shot.
