Kazakhstan to begin mass COVID-19 vaccination in 2021

Mass COVID-19 vaccination in Kazakhstan is planned in early 2021, Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin reported to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Mamin also announced the completion of the phase one and two of the clinical trials of the vaccine on November 29. He said that no side effects were recorded. The domestic coronavirus vaccine is said to be highly effective. 3,000 volunteers will be vaccinated in the phase three of the clinical trials starting December 25. The trials will be completed by the end of March, 2021.

Mamin added that the production of the first batch of the domestic vaccine in the amount of two million doses will be launched in December of this year. The first stage will cover the population groups, which are the most at-risk of infection, including health workers, teachers and law enforcement officers.

Tokayev thanked Mamin for the prompt execution of the vaccine production instruction and noted the necessity for a special control over ensuring the effectiveness of the domestic vaccine and its availability to the population.
