Press briefing by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed held in Kazakh capital

Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J. Mohammed assessed the role of Kazakhstan in the implementation of UN’s basic goals and principles at the press briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She noted Kazakhstan’s active involvement in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, both regionally and internationally. This fact contributes to the expansion of further UN support to the country in this direction. The representative of the international organization stressed that Kazakhstan’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality should set an example for other Central Asian states. In addition to this, Mohammed expressed her opinion on the implementation of national reforms and the nationwide referendum in Kazakhstan.

“The President of this country has committed itself to reach the 2060 target, I think that what we expect from the country like this. Now, we have to accompany them. What does it look like in real term? What is the business model for that? What is the pathway to a greener economy given for this independent country or exporting country. We support the process of the ongoing political reforms here in Kazakhstan, especially in light of the recent successful referendum.  Kazakhstan`s decision to proceed with the second Voluntary National Review in 2022 by the United Nations is commendable,” said Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General.
