Kazakh Senate elections to take place in January 2023

The nomination of candidates for the Kazakh Senate elections begins on November 29 at 6 p.m., the Central Election Commission reports. It will end on December 14, giving the start of an election campaign on December 24. January 13 will be the day of silence. Election Day will be on January 14. The candidates will be nominated by members of maslikhats. Two senators from each region, cities of national significance and the capital will be elected. The parliamentary mandate will be given to 10 members of the Senate, five of whom will be recommended by the Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly.

 “According to the Constitution, a person who is a citizen of Kazakhstan and has permanently resided in its territory for the last 10 years may be a Kazakh MP. A senator may be a person who has reached 30 years of age, has a higher education, minimum five-year work experience, and has permanently resided in the territory of the relevant region for at least three years,” said Konstantin Petrov, Deputy Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan.
