Trends in media and implementation of UN sustainable development goals in post-COVID-19 era

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a positive impact on the media industry. Not only have the opportunities, but also the credibility of modern journalism been enhanced. Research by Nic Newman, Senior Research Associate at Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Oxford University, was presented at an international online conference. The event was dedicated to two topics, namely how did the pandemic affect the media industry and what are the trends in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals? Newman’s report was based on a survey of 234 respondents from 43 countries. The respondents included digital leaders, chief editors and other representatives of media companies. The conference participants presented their views on the prospects for the development of journalism, voiced a media outlook for 2021, as well as presented the best projects for implementation of various SDGs during the post-COVID-19 era. The conference was attended by over 100 experts from the CIS countries, including Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, as well as from Europe and Asia.

‘Coexistence, recovery, communication’ - this is our motto for this year. And, as part of the event, we are discussing the goals that must be achieved without interruption, in particular, the SDGs. I also hope that through this event we will take a step towards new changes in education and media’, said Lee Kyu-Ae, Branch Leader, International Women’s Peace Group.
