Kazakh government considers issues relating to improvement of quality of higher education

Improve the quality of graduates of Kazakh universities and introduce mechanisms to hold universities responsible for the level of student training. Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin set that goal at the Government’s meeting. He reported that 15 educational institutions that provided low-quality education had already been closed. PM Mamin stressed that the knowledge of specialists who have completed higher education must be in line with the requirements of the market and, above all, of the employers. It is also important to introduce the principle of lifelong learning and to step up the development of new professional standards. Askar Mamin also gave instructions to work out the funding for the formation of 20 strong regional universities and the opening of two universities in Petropavl and Shymkent akin to ‘Nazarbayev University’, as well as the creation of a single digital platform for science and higher education, with specific measures to increase the volume of scientific research in universities.

“Therefore, I am instructing the Ministry of Education and Science to include in the Education Development Plan 2025 specific measures and indicators to ensure the quality of higher education, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of National Economy and interested government agencies. I also give the instruction to finalize and submit to the Government the Roadmap for Improving the Competitiveness of Universities for 2021-2025 by November 22 of this year,” said Mamin.
