Kazakh Short Track National Team advances to semifinals of Olympics in Beijing

At the Olympic Games in Beijing, the athletes competed in the final short track race at a distance of 1,500 meters. Adil Galiakhmetov represented Kazakhstan in this program. According to the results of the competition, our athlete took the 8th place. The South Korean athlete won a gold medal, the Canadian athlete won a silver one and a bronze medal went to the Russian athlete.

“Thank you all, the coaches, and all the staff. To everyone who was there and helped the athletes. I did my best, but I fell behind the leaders, got tired, lost the pace. It was a little hard, but I'm still glad. This is my first Olympics and I reached the final for the first time and I am very happy about it,” said Adil Galiakhmetov, a Kazakh short track speed skater.

Our short track team also participated in the mixed team relay. Abzal Azhgaliyev, Yana Khan, Olga Tikhonova and Denis Nikisha took to the ice. Following the results of the quarterfinal races, the athletes managed to reach the semi-finals. And according to the results of all competitions, the national team of Kazakhstan took the 5th place.

Meanwhile, Kazakh biathlete Chingiz Rakparov showed the 38th result in the ski jumping competitions, and the 41st in the ten-kilometer race.
