Kassym-Jomart Tokayev learns about development prospects of Ulytau region

Kazakh president reviewed the development prospects of the newly formed Ulytau region. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was told about a number of problems that need to be addressed in the administrative center of the region - Zhezkazgan city, including the deterioration of the environmental situation, poor diversification of the city’s economy, dependence on large enterprises, depreciation of engineering and communication infrastructure and critical state of roads of national significance. It is the high depreciation rate of these routes that is a key factor hindering the region’s economy, Governor Berik Abdygaliuly said. This causes the reduction of transit traffic, a rise in prices and a decrease in business activities.

“Maybe they will sort things out, because the city was generally in decay. The central roads are more or less normal, but those small roads on the periphery are all in a bad condition,” shared a city resident.

“We are not satisfied with medicine, roads, education, social housing and communal services, the appearance of houses. As for urbanization, there are not enough places of attraction in the city for young people,” said a city resident.

“The environment is failing us. Apparently, everyone knows this, it’s not a secret to anyone. This is probably the first thing to pay attention to,” said a city resident.

46 billion tenge will be required to provide Zhezkazgan with quality drinking water, Abdygaliuly noted. He wound up with the region with the lowest population density. Ulytau region consists of two districts and three cities. This is a small, but a strategically important region.

“There are a lot of local issues that need to be resolved. One of the big problems is the depreciation of the networks. This is the problem of drinking water quality in the city of Zhezkazgan and Zhanaarka, in Ulytau region in general. Sewer networks are practically absent in Satpayev, Karazhal, Ulytau. We need to solve all this with the support of the government. After some time, people will sense that the formation of the regional center is underway,” opined Berik Abdygaliuly, Governor of Ulytau region.
