Harvesting campaign starts in Zhambyl region

The harvesting campaign started in Zhambyl region. Favorable weather conditions allowed to start collection of crops earlier than usual. Approximately 70,000 hectares were provided for cereal cultivation this year in Kordai district. Over half of this is barley. Its yield is 3.5 tonnes per hectare.

“There are approximately 4,000 hectares of land, including 1,000 hectares of winter crops, 500-600 hectares of barley. Particularly, this is Aidyn elite seeds. I’m working with control identification marks, and I planted these seeds four years ago, but the deadline has expired, so we’re updating it right now,” said farmer Duissenkhan Ongeldiyev. 

“The difference of this crop variety is that it is an autumn one. In autumn the winter crop is sown. The tillering stage is good. We can get 5-7 stems from one chain. On average, we get approximately 7.5 tonnes of crops on our trial fields every year. I believe it is a good harvest, there are fewer losses and it is convenient while harvesting crops,” Seitkarim Kaltayev from the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture And Plant Growing shared.

High crop yields depend not only on the seeds quality, but also the irrigation system. Currently, farmers are adapting the drip irrigation technology. This method allows using 3 times less water.

“The year has been really productive for the farmers. The weather was dry over the last two years. It was difficult for farmers. This year, there must be a good hay, wheat and barley sowing. The research staff is also here. They watch the sowing and want to monitor how the seeds will take root on our Kordai land,” Maden Mussayev, Governor of Kordai district in the Zhambyl region, noted.

In general, barley and wheat were planted on more than 360,000 hectares of land in the region. The last harvest will start this week.
