Kazakhstan to fully switch to digital TV and radio broadcasting by 2023

All regions of Kazakhstan will transition to digital television and radio broadcasting by 2023, the country’s Minister of Information and Social Development Askar Umarov announced at the Government’s meeting. He noted that over 92 percent of the population or 11 regions of the country have been covered with it to date. This year, the relevant ministry plans to put into operation six radio and TV stations in the East Kazakhstan region. Up to 30 TV channels are currently broadcast in digital quality in cities of regional and national significance, while in other regions - up to 15, Umarov said. He stressed that nowadays domestic TV content is popular not only among Kazakh citizens, but also among foreign viewers.

“In 2021, six Kazakhstan’s TV channels, including three state-owned ones, were included in the TOP 10 among 166 channels. Over the past five years, about 250 TV series have been filmed with state support. This is more than 3,500 episodes. More than 50 of them were sold to Singapore, Russia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries,” Umarov noted.
