Astana Opera prepares for opening of 10th anniversary season

The Astana Opera theatre closed its 9th season with a grand gala concert. This year was an eventful one for Kazakh artists. Their first performances took place in Australia at the beginning of the year. The soloists took part in the prestigious festival Ballet International Gala. In winter, the famous national opera “Alpamys” by Yerkegali Rakhmadiyev was performed again for the first time after a 30-year hiatus. One of the most popular opera singers of the world Maria Mudryak also gave a big concert for the first time in three years. During the event, the artists tried to cover all the classics of French romantic opera of the 19th century in 20 performances. The concert can be regarded as an announcement of the upcoming anniversary season.

I can say this is our future plan. After all, we intend to orient our future work in artistic direction. This is our first French opera concert. Therefore, the program was created in a way that they complement each other. Although each of them has its own uniqueness, we were able to unite them for a common interest,” said Alan Buribayev, the Principal Conductor of Astana Opera.

The 10th season will be marked with similar bright events. It will be opened with a world opera celebrity and Grammy-award winner Sumi Jo from South Korea. She was selected as “Artist for Peace” by UNESCO. The Astana Opera will hold an international festival “Zhibek Zholy”. “Cinderella”, “Kalkaman – Mamyr”, and the children’s opera “Kanbak shal” will be premiered as well.
