Kazakh President instructs to develop transport corridors in Abai region

President of Kazakhstan continues a series of working trips to the regions of the country. This time, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in the Abai region, where he met with its residents. During his speech, the Head of State noted that Semei used to be a vital hub of international transit trade, and at present, the region connects the country’s eastern regions, bordering the country’s two largest neighbors, namely Russia and China. President Tokayev stressed that it is necessary to take full advantage of this huge transport and logistics, as well as trade and economic potential.

“For the purpose of developing Kazakhstan’s transport potential, we are planning to build a railway track to China through Bakhty. We absolutely must build this railway. The government is working on this issue. It is necessary to create a dry port and logistics park, and develop transport corridors in the region,” Tokayev said.

At the meeting, the Head of State also reminded the residents that in the past the Abai region was famous for its agricultural achievements. It supplied the entire country with meat, milk, leather, wool and other products, and even exported it abroad. And this potential of the region is going to be restored. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also spoke about the need to carry out large-scale geological exploration in the region.
