Street named after Sultan Beibars appears in Kazakh capital

A street named after a great native of Desht-i-Kipchak Sultan Baibars appeared in the Saryarka district of the capital. The street is more than 2 km long. The commander’s name is forever inscribed in golden letters not only in the history of the Kazakh people, but in world history as well. Sultan Baibars reigned in the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt for 17 years. One of the strongest rulers of the East defended the sultanate against the Crusaders and Mongol invaders. Over 600 events are planned to mark the 800th birth anniversary of Sultan Baibars, both at the national and international levels. Besides, researchers intend to visit museums around the world as part of the international expedition to gather valuable relics of the eminent sultan.

“This year we are planning to hold Days of Kazakh Culture in Egypt. There is a special museum and a mosque named after Sultan Baibars in Cairo. Once repair work is completed, a Kazakh delegation will visit it in two or three months. The program will include a specially prepared theatrical performance, a gala concert, and commemorative events. Turkic states, namely Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as all regions of Kazakhstan are holding special events dedicated to Sultan Baibars,” said Askhat Oralov, Kazakh Minister of Culture and Sports.
